The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Origins

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is a return to a classic sextet structure, and a more consistent, stronger effort with a harder edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the growth of the band. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard work was also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous recordings.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live show which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. The group released their new studio album a few months later and then embarked on a world tour help promote it. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demos and tapes in search of a new record featuring songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed as a double album titled Then And Now in 2001. It was the band's first album without one single track titled "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and the vocalist Williams suffered from a bad case of laryngitis which limited his singing capabilities. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville, while drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia were in England early in 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. This lineup, with the exception of Howe (who was a member of Yes at the time) was eventually referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured the appearance of singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
